[BNW] Blaster adventure idea

Well, since I'm going through each power package
thinking of new tricks, might as well add an adventure
idea for each.

Cross to Bear

Jaquilin Heisman is your average everyday unregistered
teenage blaster trying just to get through highschool,
or at least was until a few days ago.  A series of
mysterious deaths at the hands of a blaster at the
school has prompted her to run away, hoping no one
would suspect her ... unfortunately it's done the
opposite and she's a prime suspect.  Oddly, none of
these deaths are appearing in the local paper.

Whats going on?  Well, Delta Prime knows there's an
unregistered delta running around.  Since they havn't
'controlled' the situation yet, they are keeping
things quite so as not to alert the Defiance to what's
going on.  Unfortunately a Defiance mole has seen the
reports, and passed the information on to Truth.  Now
it's a race between both sides to find the girl before
the other side does.

If the players investigate the school the will
discover (after going through alot of red tape, and
making some hard rolls) that 2 children recently have
died from Blaster attacks.  Both been within the past
week.  The have been no witnesses, although Jaquelin
Heisman, a straight A student who never skips a class,
has recently disappeared.  Also another student Janet
Hartwig (a friend of Jackie) ran away a month ago. 
Talking to local parents in the neighborhood should
yield similar information.  Talking to Jaquelin's
parents will let the players know that Jackie's been
upset since Janet left.

Have the players do some investigating and eventually
introduce them to Jackie.  Interrogating her reveals
that she feels Janet is an unregistered blaster and is
responsible for these actions.  They had a falling out
when Jackie informed her friend that she was also a
Delta.  Not much information is available from Janet's
parents.  They're seperated, and the mother has been
in a psychiatric ward since she disappeared.

The truth is (and Jackie is in complete denial of this
so she will not appear to be lying) is that Janet is
dead.  Jackie had confessed being a delta to her
friend, who did not take the news kindly. Jackie then
accidentally killed her while showing off her power,
proving she was safe and normal.  Jackie hasn't been
the same since, in fact you could say she's partially
become Janet.  While normally being shy, sweet, and
normally good natured (as well as being a nervous
wreck, she's been on the run, living on the streets),
occasionally she will flip personalities and become a
delta hating bigot who wants to kill anyone she thinks
is a delta.  That is part of the reason she's been
targeting other school kids.  

Now the trick here is not to have her flip when
players are around.  You've played deadlands, treat
this as a harrowed/manitou type experience (well, she
does smell funny at least).  Use the red herring ploy.
 Have the players convinced that Janet is out to get
Jackie and they need to protect her.  Have her run
away a few times, caught by the other team, seemed to
be attacked by ... but escaped from her nemisis.  

Of course if you're playing Delta Prime, give em the
sob story, have em lock her up, then have a copy cat
blaster move in.  Trick em into thinking she has been
telling the truth.  Shoot maybe have a copycat move in
when the defiance catches her.

Eventually the let the players in on whats going on,
unless they figure it out for themselves.  Now they'll
have to think of the right thing to do.  How can they
save Jackie from her alter ego Janet?


Finally, this would be a good time to try out the
Cosmetic Ray trick from the previous post.  A great
red herring would be that each blaster has different
signature blasts (course then you'd need at least one
witness to help get this herring to work).


If anyone tries this idea, or has a better write-up,
let me know.  I'd be interested in seening how it
works out.
