Actually his average will be about 21 (5d6 will on average produce a roll
around 8).

I have found this HtH adding a little confusing. What I have done is to say
that either you use the passive difficulty of 5+Hth skill level or you use a
dodge. But I have also added an option that you can choose to parry in melee
combat using your speed d6 + HtH (no matter whether your HtH skill is
strength or speed based).

This way you avoid the confusion of having to include too many factors, and
at the same time you give your players more options in combat.
