As stated and officially confirmed, doesn't need to be turned off when he is
present.

The original post (which wasn't mine) may very well have been in error.
That's why you would be wise to consult the source material itself, rather
than relying on someone paraphrasing it for you (or at least you should note
that the misquoter is in error, rather then continuing the discussion as if
the source material is). Sounds like BNW has enough things to potentially
be blamed for, without blaming stuff on it based on someone else's misquote.
;)
The picture I think you're thinking of is during the Bicentennial Battle
when there _were_ Alphas (page 30, basic rule book). A quick thumb-through
of all three books to date and I didn't find any other such pictures. Even
if there's one or two elsewhere...I wouldn't take those over the vast
majority of others that are consistent with the source material. Artistic
license and all...
>So. Q.1: do or more properly _did_ nulification fields work against alphas?

_Of course_ alpha-level nullification fields worked against Alphas prior to
'76! That's stated clearly in the source material (are you sure you've read
it if you have to ask that question?). How else were Alphas locked up, and
kept "safe" when the bomb went off in '76? That's stated repeatedly
throughout the various books.
Your question seems to be is whether nullification fields are kept and
maintained at the same super-nullification level post-'76 (when there aren't
supposed to be more than a few rogue alphas, and they're more or less in
Kennedy's pocket one way or another) as they were pre-'76. The answer to
that would presumably and logically be: No. And how would anyone know if
they weren't...? How many of those JFK-owned Alphas go charging the White
House so that folks can say, "Ahh, they can get through but Deltas can't."

As far as Superior, the technology itself is not portable. Even if Superior
couldn't breech the White House, it seems likely that if he turned against
JFK there is a lot he could do outside of the relatively few areas that were
alpha-nullified.
Plus Superior was considered a threat because even among Alphas, he was
nearly _the_ single most powerful of them all on the face of the planet.
Even if JFK had an Alpha-Snuffer he could have sent out against Superior,
Superior seems to have had enough tricks and powers up his sleeve to spot
the Snuffer before being nailed. Besides, the Alpha-Snuffer would have only
had to fail once for Patriot to know something was up...
*shrug* Apparently JFK does appear in public from time to time. Just as
clearly the source material shows that he could hang out in a nullification
field (as they are kept post-'76) with very little threat of exposure.
There's no problem with finding weaknesses, and if that's an approach you
want to take (are you speaking as a player or as a Guide?), go for it. But
keep in mind JFK (or a reasonable facsimile thereof) is no idiot. Best case
scenario to me seems that he keeps the nullification field on all the time,
keeps a low profile inside the White House or wears a simple mask, and
counts on the field (plus those Deltas in the shielded suits and all) to
stop any intruders.

I know people who do, yes. Mostly those with too much money on their
hands... ;)
