[BNW] Questions about aquarians
Hello, folks. This is my first post to the group. And it's a doozy.
There is nothing in the description of aquarians that says they can
communicate underwater, with (f'rinstance) the old Aquaman skill of
"aquatic telepathy." I don't mean talking to fish, I mean talking to one
another. Which means that when submerged, aquarians can't speak.
If you've ever tried to talk underwater, you know what I mean. Water
absorbs the sound waves too easily, except for low frequencies. It might
have been possible if, during creation of the power package, aquarians
were given the ability to "thrummm...thrumm..." with low frequencies
underwater that would carry for a short distance, and thus communicate.
But they weren't, and therefore they can't.
This means that aquarians can only communicate through sign language.
Broad gestures are all they can interpret from a distance of, say, ten
inches in game terms. Things like arm waving and pointing. Closer up,
they might be able to communicate better with American Sign Language
(ASL) or some other signs that the deaf use. Although their ability might
be impaired because of their webbed fingers.
Incidentally (this just occurred to me) their manual dexterity would have
to be limited due to that webbing on the fingers. Imagine long tendrils
of rubber cement between your fingers and you'll see how it would be
difficult to grasp or maniuplate things, or make a fist.
What do you think about these ideas? Should they be canon? Or is there
something I'm overlooking?
