I prefer to hand out the occasional Delta Point as a
reward for inspired role playing, a particularly
heroic act or any other player action that signicantly
impacts everyones' enjoyment of the gaming session.
Kinda like handing out an extra poker chip in
Deadlands. Extra points act like the standard Delta
point, and have to be used during that session or are
lost, though if it is the very end of a session, I
might let the point be used the next time we play. And
if I'm really impressed, I might let the point be used
like a "Lucky" delta point, and let it affect
disastorous rolls.
To my way of thinking, delta points are less a
reflection of experience, and more a matter of taking
destiny in your own hands, and praying to whatever
gods you believe in to save your hide. I can certainly
see a characters actions or karma affecting his future
success, but I can't see his influence growing larger
after repeated adventures, like a karmic (delta point)
stockpile. I think a growing delta point total could
very quickly get out of hand. At least with my
players. As always, depends on your Gamemastering
style.
