[BNW] Strength Weirdness

I have recently joined the list and have been reading the old posts so I'm sorry if this is an old topic.

Here is our group's solution to the lifting and throwing problem (mostly just the lifting).

Leave the pace alone, but add a plus one (+1) to the size that can be lifted. Characters can now lift strength +3.
It looks like this.

Up to Strength + 1                        Normal Pace
Strength +2                                  50%
Strength +3                                    0%
Strength +4 or more                        -

This makes the lifting and moving a little more realistic.
Also, when lifting strength +3 we allow a strength roll vs a target # of the size lifted. That means an average person needs a 5. Each success allows an inch of movement that round (not to exceed 50% pace and NO sprinting!). Re-roll every round. Otherwise, you're just holding the weight in place. That way a flyer with strength 2 can carry that average person out of the burning building (slowly of course). If you need to spend that delta point to help make sure you move them, then you can. Lots of heroic possibilities. Disaster means the character chooses between dropping the weight or falling (flyers plummet, walkers stumble and drop to one knee).

We also discussed ways to use flying to slow a falling object/person but couldn't really agree on anything. At least anything that wasn't too complex anyway. We don't want a physics exercise every time we play and non of us wants to spoil the relative "rules light" nature of this game - it's one of the things we like best about it.

Anyway, that works for us.

Hope this helps your game.
later.
