The biggest reason that the cast mini's are being dropped is because if PEG
sinks the money into them, and they flop, PEG goes under.
And for several reasons, there is a dern good chance that they'll flop.
(The WotC entrance into the miniature line being one of them).

There are currently no plans to recast 'em.  Now, while things change, the
market would have to drastically change before it's likely that lead comes
out again.
