Simple, just cast "Detect Magic" and it glows...
Oops, this isn't D&D, so I guess you can't do it...
Seriously, though, Relics are meant to be "special"
IMNSHO, the user/bearer/whatever needs to be "in tune" with
to realize it is something special.
