Not at all. The 'slinger who casts A takes all the damage if he doesn't get
the required hand (i.e. the hex fails totally and he get hit for the full
total) while the 'slinger who casts B but misses the required hand by one
level still avoids most of the damage.

Only if you hit the required hand, which doesn't matter AS much for
bodyguard.

No reason why not - I have had the situation in AD&D (many years ago) when
two spellcasters both had rings of spell-turning and one of them cast
something nasty at the other. The spell started bouncing, and neither could
move, cast anything else, or pretty much do anything for fear he would
distrup the next turn his ring would do (I think it was power word kill or
blind or something like that). As GM I eventually declared both rings
exploded from the strain and they both got hit by half the spell each, which
combined with the explosions I think killed both of them.
