however I'll tag one to this as it contains some "nature of ghost 
rock" spoilers.

I would agree with Dan and probably give it a slight bonus over a 
normal sword in it's base damage.  After each kill or couple of 
kills (people only - not undead or abomination) I would increase the 
power of the sword.  In effect the sword would absorb the souls of 
those it killed boosting it's powers.  The player is question will 
soon realise this and go for kills with the sword in order to boost 
it's power.

I would say that a Blessed would have a hard time considering the 
nature of the process and souls that have gone into making the sword. 
 The character might find out that Blessed characters may seek him 
out to put a stop to his stealing of souls.  If a Blessed (N)PC 
managed to Bless the sword - I would have it remove the stored souls 
from the sword, returning it to it's normal damage (which is just a 
little better than a normal sword) and prevents the sword from 
stealing any more souls.  

Of course if the sword was ever used in an ungodly way the Blessing 
would be broken and the sword would be free to steal souls again.  

I like to make players' "cool" items the bane of their lives :-)
