I have run an ICQ campaign a year or so ago.  We did it using the chat
feature on the application itself (not the web based groups). And It was
actually kind of easy, because I marshalled from ohio, and the other 3
players lived on the same floor in a dorm room out in iowa. We only had to
use 2 connections (them being on ethernet, and me on my dialup). It worked
rather well.  It went on about once, sometimes twice a week for a few hours,
and the campaign went on about 3-4 months.  I would do it again, if like
others, the timing was right, and I wasn't so terribly busy.  Just thought
I'd through in my .02
