Speaking as the longest-surviving character in our posse (fifteen months real
time if'n I'm not mistaken), I do in fact see where you're coming from.

Many of our characters have picked up a good number of phobias and the like from
failed Guts checks, and in my case, although Vicky has yet to fail a Guts check
(I love my d8s), she tends to go to pieces at a moment's notice. Dying twice and
coming back both times will do that to you. ;) Even though she doesn't actually
have any major encounter-related Hindrances, I try to roleplay it as though she
does -I figure no one can go through two years (game time) of utter Hell and
terror and sheer unadulterated horror and come out unscathed.

Frankly, for those of us who've been playing for a while, I'd say it's fair to
say we've become a cynical and jaded lot (although not too cynical to freak out
and run away when attacked by a Nameless Horror). Our Marshal has done his work
well, to which our various chronicles will attest.
