Hmmm, left out the two biggest power groups ... The
Confederacy and The Union. Plus if you want to get
technically, there are the British in Detriot, and the
French in Mexico ....
As for all this train talk, there is a major war going
on. One big source of cash - government subsideries.
Historically the government is not known for saving
money, even though they try to use the lowest bidders,
and with 2 countries (North and South) both paying the
bill to go West ... trains can grab cash that way.
Related note: It was mentioned historically the banks
had power in settling rail disputes. Also, train
manufacturers were making out like bandits. So
consider, are the train companies listed above really
power groups? Or just groups that make a lot of
noise? Has anyone played with bigger organizations
behind the scenes funding the raillines? Or even just
thrown in other organizations (have the players fight
the evil banks). Personally I'm surprised not more
groups are used. A few are mentioned here and there,
but I'd expect more. Likewise, I'd expect more rail
companies as big as or bigger than the ones listed
above, just without any evil lurking within (and to
keep it simple, follow historical naming conventions
of the 2 cities, or city/area the train ran through).
Finally (about trains), how often are ghost rock
trains used? Sure they exist, but I doubt they would
be the major train force used by a company, just
because of their price. As for the fuel issue, I
wonder how easy it would be to 'cut' the ghost rock
with some regular coal.

Hmmm, well, I did just pick up the collegium, and I do
have a few Doomtown cards, but for the most part I try
to ignore that Doomtown existed (just TOO many things
happening in TOO small an area). What I mean is, the
groups listed above, and or attributed to Doomtown,
could have happened anywhere, and probably does. Each
major city would have a group similar to any of the
above, yet they would be completely unrelated to each
other, and probably not know of each other. The above
groups are good as examples or guidelines for what
kind of groups exist, but should not be considered as
'power-players' in the whole deadlands scheme of
things.
