I had an idea a while back, of 'other' areas with
levels ... things similar to fear levels, but based
off of 'other' ideas. The easiest example that comes
to mind is Weirdness levels, in which the creatures
within are trying to increase the levels of discord
and absurdity (not necessarily of the comical point)
of an area in an attempt to bring across a creature of
pure chaos (something Cthulhuian perhaps).
Storytelling would be used to fight this (after the
creature is defeated), but the players must specify
that they are trying to show the area as normal or
mundane (remember, you need to know what kind of story
to tell ... :). Another example would be apathy ...
and trying to summon a void. The reckoners aren't the
only mean nasties on the block, just the biggest.
No I wouldn't overlap 2 different 'theme' areas, aka
an area wouldn't have a fear level of 2, and an apathy
level of 4. One or the other, but it would be
possible for an area to get low enough to change (most
likely to fear ... )
Just some thought
