Re: [DL] Headache

Mr. David, I believe I have your donkey.

The Sword of Wi Ho Lueng, 5 point belonging.(Let the player buy the edge as a
relic sword, use a joker to make it tainted)

Over 200 years ago, Samurai Wi Ho Lueng a war party for Manchurian Fuedal
Warlord. He was brutal, strong, and despised anyone who would run from the
field of battle. When he died, all of his possessions were repossessed by his
Warlord, who had originally purchased it. From there, the Sword of Wi Ho
Lueng(which was never named, beyond 'Sword of') passed from Samurai to
Samurai, until in a particular battle the wielder was struck down, and the
sword was taken by the enemy, where its past became even more unknown.
Likely, the characters father or uncle served under the Lord who possessed it
at the time, was given the sword, and due to clerical error, or simply
forgetting that they'd given that dirty old sword away, never asked for it
back.(One of the quirks of the sword is that it can only be used by Chinese
people four generations apart- so you don't have to worry about the player
trading it to someone else before he dies-because likely, it won't work for
them. This is also why it wasn't instantly snatched up for the power it held-
noone knew it was there.)

Power: The sword has no "always on" powers. The applicable philosophy is,
"You get nothing when you invest nothing." The sword is powered by the
character's wind- when the character makes an attack with his sword, he can
spend wind for any of the following effects. The duration for these effects
is One Attack, unless otherwise mentioned.
-Armor Piercing: for every 2 wind spent, one level of AP is gained.
-Devastating Ape Strike: The Ape Strike was one of Wi Ho's favored powers. As
such, the character can spend wind to activate a Devastating Ape strike. For
each wind spent, One ten sided die can be rolled and added to the damage of
the attack. No more than 5 wind can be spent on the devatating ape strike.
The power is automatically succesful, so what is rolled is just added to
damage, regardless of whether any dice make the listed TN of Devastating Ape
Strike. Also, disregard the paragraph in the description that says it can
only be used in hand to hand.
-Accuaracy: Each wind spent on accuracy adds +1 to the character's Fightin:
Sword roll, and Can manipulate the hit location by +1/-1 for each wind spent.
-Fury: for two wind, the character can follow up any successful attack on a
target with a second attack on the same action card, to any target within 1
yard of her. Wind can be spent on special effects for this attack as well.
-Defence: for every two wind spent, the DB for the weapon is increased by One
for two combat rounds.
-Intimidation: For every wind spent, the character gains +2 for Overawe and
Ridicule attempts, in the form of war crys, battle taunts, and loud, scary
threats.

Note- Fate chips cannot be spent to restore wind used to power the sword. The
wind must be restored by natural rest and meditation, and cannot be restored
by Medicine, Potions or Elixirs, or Magical effects from any arcane
background.

Taint- The character must wear the sword on visibly on his hip at all times,
except for sleeping and bathing. This Will(thats right, you get to make fun
of the player, marshal) cause alot of dumb Cowboys to make racist jokes. The
Soul of Wi Ho Lueng will not stand to have roundeyes mock his sword, or the
bearer there of. If the character does not appropriately rebuke all comments
made about his sword, race, appearance, or whatever, The soul of Wi Ho Lueng
will rush into the chracter, Take control of his body, and deal out justice
in his old fashion way of doing things- Intense Violence. Lueng remains in
the body for as long as it takes to subde the offender(s), and resheath the
sword. Then, the character returns to his body, usually in a busted up saloon
surrounded by a half dozen unconscious, bleeding men. It's up to the marshal
what an "Appropriate Rebuke" is, though it should match the offence. You
shouldn't have to cut out some's Tongue for a "nice butterknife" comment.

Also, the character can never flee combat- if he does, Wi Ho Returns, and
takes over the Character's body, and remains until combat is over. Also, The
character Must pursue all retreating enemys, and Knock em' silly.(or dead, if
it was that kinda fight) If the character does not Comply, guess what
happens- Wi Ho takes over!

While it may seem to take a player out of the loop for a good deal of game
time, I would recommend talking to the player in question, and ask him if he
thinks he can roleplay a violent, ruthless, brutal chinese samurai, and let
him play Wi Ho, whenever Wi Ho takes over. That is, if you can trust him to
not base his actions off which are the least detrimental to the original
Character.
