RE: [DL] Headache

SOME MILD SPOILERS

-----Original Message-----
This guy also pulled both jokers. If I assign Ace or maybe King to one of
the jokers, that would account for his having the sword. But, would he
still have to pay the 5 points for the Belongin'?

David,

A lot of people have weighed in on this already and I will stea...er, borrow
some of their ideas:

The sword is a standard Tai Chi Broadsword -- attractive but not
exceptionally well adorned. To a non-Chinese, the sword is nothing special.

The Chinese (on an Easy Area Knowledge: China Roll) recognize the blade as
(pick the one you prefer):
The Sword of Qin -- the First Emperor of China
While this was supposed to remain in his fantastic tomb (The one with all
those Terra Cotta warriors buried nearby. It is supposed to have a map of
china with rivers made out of mercury.), with the coming of the reckoning,
Qin arranged for the sword to reappear. He has no intention of seeing his
empire and people destroyed by the Reconers. The sword imparts a bonus on
all Mein rolls when dealing with Chinese (Overawe, Leadership, etc.)

The Sword of the Ancestor: The PCs ancestor was one of the early
practitioners of the fighting style chosen. While wielding the sword, he
gets a bonus to his fighting skill.

On the question of buying the relic, let him have it as a Belongin' 5 and
use one of the Mysterious Pasts as Haunted -- by the original owner of the
sword. This will allow you to use the ghost much as the hindrance "Sifu!
Sifu!" while still giving the PC an advantage. The Haunter can teach the
PC, for example, in order to make him a better champion for the Cause
(whatever that may be).

Part of this comes from the TV show "Kung Fu -- The Legend Continues."
There was a sword in that show (The Sword of Kwai Chang) that was present at
the early days of the Shaolin Temple. They used the sword to travel back in
time (a focus for going and coming).

Hope this helps.

Matt
