[DL] Re: (digest) Cards over the Net

"I'm starting a HoE play by web game at
http://www.rondaksportal.com and I am unsure how to
deal with the action deck and such."

Well, here's what I do.

I have two decks, one for combat, one for the
Huckster. At the beginning of each combat round, I
roll the players' and NPCs' Quickness, draw their
cards, and put them in descending order.

I post the order to my players, who then have a
certain amount of time (usually up to 48 hours) to
respond with their actions. If/Or statements are fully
acceptable. Anyone not responding in this amount of
time will be run as an NPC this round. While waiting
for their actions, I make up a list of the NPC actions
that I expect to take.

Once I have the actions, I go down the list, running
combat as usual. I try to stick to the NPC actions I
originally listed, since the PCs can't change their
actions based on what they know of what's already
happened.

I'll post the "Gamespeak" version of the turn to the
players, who then have up to 48 hours to let me know
if they want to spend Fate Chips, change targets or
actions, etc. I only allow one round of this, since
otherwise combat would be an ungodly mess.

Once I have the full combat round completed, I type up
a prose version, and post it to the players.

A full but short example involving one PC and a few
NPCs with no Fate Chips, etc, can be seen starting at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DustAndBones/message/556
and ending at message #564. A longer example involving
all three players, three NPCs, Fate Chips and
everything can be found from message #367 to #431.

Note that I try to provide maps as well. It's very
important for players to know where their cover is,
what the ranges are, where the possible threats are,
etc.

Hope all goes well!
