RE: Re: [DL] The Munchkin Twins

Kicking in a couple more cent's worth on speed loaders.
pistols:
This would only work with the Smith and Wesson style top break revolvers at the time for cartridge revolvers.
The preloaded cylinders only really work with the percussion Remington model 1857s and similar copied pistols. The cartridge conversion for the Remingtons was a 2 piece job which did not lend its self to quick change cylinders.
As a note if they carry a lot of spare cylinders, my experience has been that with much movement the containers come unsnapped and the cylinders get lost.

Rifles:
The only 2 I can think of which could be quick loaded were the Henry and the Spencer. The Henry was reloaded by pushing the magazine spring to the top of the magazine and twisting the top off of the magazine. Cartridges were then dropped in the top of the magazine. A preloaded tube could be used to quickly dump cartridges into the magazine. As a note, this was no longer possible starting with the Winchester model 1866 which incorporated the Lord's side loading gate.
The Spencer actually had a cartidge box with held preloaded magazines for the Spencer. Blakeslee was the maker.
