I don't think you have a very good knowledge of the human psyche. Most
people given real world scenarios will gladly take a life of slavery over
one of pure chaos. As long as food is on the table and a house is over your
head its not that hard to take an occasional beating or a master. Ask any
country with a dictator. Their is a reason impoverished countries tend to
move toward totalitarian regimes. And for the same reason, I think agree
that a freed slave is likely to still see the north as an enemy.

After all look what did happen to them all after they were "free". I don't
expect you to agree, hell I know you won't. And I have no idea if you have
kids, but if you do consider this: Would you bow down and take a beating if
you new that it was the only sure way your kids were not going to starve to
death?

Slaves were not Southerners, they just lived in the same place.

You have a very rose-tinted view of slavery, thats all I can say.

Sorry I don't see it.  Nationalism is a strong force. 
The ex-slaves are Southeners born and bred, why would
they help the Union?
