In general, you are looking for nomadic warriors. The two that leap to mind are:


Crazy Horse (Dakota War Chief)
Any of the steppe nomad generals (Attila the Hun, Ghengis Khan)

Something you might want to think about is looking through the WWII tank commanders -- especially on the Eastern Front -- to see if there was anyone who managed to employ light tanks on the flanks.
