I just joined minutes ago. 

I had not thought of the Hunting Grounds being a place of ruin like the
earth and it does make sense!  Maybe the Reckoners fight paralleled the
plight of the whiteman.  I hate to say this, but it is the WW Wild West
premise... shudder...

Anyway, maybe Guardian Spirits are the only contact but then again the
spirits may know the only way to fix the Hunting Grounds is to fix the
earth, so they will spend more time trying to rebuild...  

...the form of this aid could be the Old Ways.  But another idea (I just
thought of) is to expand the Guardian Spirit idea to incorporate
additional powers.  Maybe make power mechanics similar to the Templars
(innate abilities).  The end result could be a melding of favors into the
Guardian Spirits to give a player some totem that they gain power from as
they serve that totem's needs.
