You've only started over 5 times? Gee, it took me at least 7 or 8 just
to get a character that I liked. The last post on the site said that
they received a suggestion that may allow you to use an old saved game.

Nah, the game gets really fun when you have a Steal of 100. Go and swipe
the bad guys extra ammo and then pick a fight. A few shots later and
they are swingin' fists. No lack of ammo for my players. Or armor for
that matter.
