No this does not apply to the original Deadlands game. In the City of
Gloom supplement we learn of huckster/mad scientist combination
characters called Thaumitergical Diffusionists.(Which are what the
Junkers came from, according to Shane who posted this information
earlier.) I can't rightly say why this is so in Deadlands and not in
HOE. My guess would be that in Deadlands there are no "groups" or
"factions" that solely control the powers they gain through the Hunting
Grounds. There are as many Pink an Texas Ranger Mad scientists and
Hucksters as there are free roaming heroes and nefarious villians in the
Weird West.
In HOE a single man or group(Sykers) are the source of the magic powers.
Mabye this is why or mabye Shane and CO. didn't want the rampant
Munchkinism that can happen when you take more than one arcane
background. When Shane answers you original post we will all be
enlightened.
