[HoE] Wasted West Comments (Shane)

 Warning, semi long post

 Hey folks

We FINALLY got The Wasted West up in these parts, Vancouver, so I can actually
make some comments about the book.

Overall I thought that it was good, very good indeed. In many ways, it's a
shame that it could have come out at the same time as the HOE, it certainly
would have answered a lot of questions about that I had about the world.

The added weapons are great, personally I think you can never have to many
weapons but hey that's just me.

Overall the campaign world is even more epic than that of Deadlands, what with
the Black Hats, Raven, the wormlings, the Three Horsemen/One Walker of the
Apocalypse, Silas and lord knows what else there's a lot of evil that needs to
be fought. While this does give the GM a lot of room to manoeuvrer as far as
designing scenarios it all appears to be a bit overwhelming for a group of
PCs. Especially with Stone out there. Just think about it. If the PCs actually
get enough power to take on one of these groups, this almost ensures a visit
 from everyone favorite dead man.

I know that their has been some criticism of Movietown as being a campy, but I
personally love the idea. My take on it, is that the director has realized
that giving hope back to people is one of the best ways to fight the
Reckoners. His movies are probably having more of an impact that whole groups
 of PCs.

Another point of discussion has been the pre war tech level. I think that this
has been left vague enough in Wasted West, that it could be what ever the GM
wants it to be. Which in my opinion is how it should be.

I do have one suggestion for any GM out there, who is planning on making heavy
use of Servitors in your campaign. If you can lay your hands on the Orrorsh
sourcebook for West End Games Torg, you may find it worth your while. They
have a great chapter about how to run adventures around creatures that have
specific ways to die. It called true death in the Orrorsh

 Anyway that's it for now.
