[HoE] Re: [HOE] One little complaint

Well, since everyone is adding their opinions, I might as well toss mine
out, too...

I, for one, am entirely unperturbed by the multiple references. I've
found them highly entertaining and sometimes even useful: I fully plan
to run my party through some difficult situations in both the Wizard's
Tower and Movie Town (although obviously not only those two). Of
course, the rest of their adventures are far from pleasant, but moments
of levity are necessary. If I wanted a game world where things just
constantly sucked at all times, I'd play one of the World of Darkness
games (*shudder*). I find the references to at very least make for more
enjoyable reading (Of course, I've bought Paranoia adventures just for
their reading value, so I suppose it's all a matter of opinion).

In addition, it does make a sort of sense for there to be a good number
of references in a world where fears and dreams are translated into
reality. Killer tomatoes? I fully expect that movie town will be
terrorized by a chainsaw-and-hockeymask monster when the posse gets
there: half of the fun is seeing the looks on their faces when they
realize what they're up against...

And, of course, if you don't like something that's a reference,
marshal's fiat still applies. None of the primary storylines are
absolutely dependent on any of the references; they're all Pinnacle
originals (unless I missed something)...

Hell on Earth Event of the Moment:

"I use Tattletale on the blackhat to get him to tell me about the Combine."
"Ok ay; halfway through the conversation, his head goes explodes."
"Ack! I duck to the ground and yell to the rest of the posse that
there's a sniper out there!"
