[HoE] [HOE] Junkers and MacGuyver

ok my 2 cents!

the first thing to say is that if the posse wanted a 'MacGuyvered' bit of 
kit, a Junker could do it, but he probably wouldn't use occult engineering 
for it! ok say the posse needed a lock picking device (as someone gave an 
example for), well if it were 'MacGuyvered', then it would be a set of 
simple lockpicks created from scrap metal and whatever else, requiring a 
tinkerin' roll and whatever else the marshal requires! ok nothing fancy just 
a simple set of lock picks, now a junker device could be a device which 
examines the lock, and then picks it for the junker (I haven't finished the 
powers section so I won't give examples of the powers required!).  Ok now 
the junker would (probably) have all the skills to make both, so could do it 
either way.  Now my point is that there are several ways of doing things 
(I've played Mage for too long and remember the time I figured out 12 
different ways of making my Mage invisable!) with the exception of devices 
which are very complex (a car, a railgun, a lighsaber) which in my opinion 
is what the Junkers and the Junker rules are for! ok now to let a junker 
'MacGuyver' up a car, from a few wheels, an engine, and a few other bits and 
bobs, in a gaming session is stupid, it'd take days! therefore should be 
left for between sessions on the posses 'down time'.

Now in my opinion the rules are also there to stop stupid 'munchkin' 
devices, or at least make them more realistic and balanced! Ok you want to 
make a Plasma weapon that does 5D20 damage AP6, ok you can, now you want to 
fit it into a pistol?!? ok this is a stupid example (but believe me my posse 
WOULD try it!), but anyway, you could make it, but it'd have to be huge, and 
you'd have to sacrific number of shots and such, now for all of you who 
believe that the rules are too complex, well use them as a guide then, ok 
the Plasma Pistol (P105) has a frame of 2, does 3D8 damage, Range inc of 5, 
and 5 shots, well if the posse wanted it to do more damage, more shots 
whatever, it'd need to be in a frame of 3 or more! there ya go! simple, then 
the Marshal decides on a few rolls to make, and it's built!

My last point is that, well it is a game, if you don't like something change 
it! there is no universal law saying "this is the bible, to play the game 
you MUST use it!!!" moaning on the list serve or to PEG won't change a thing 
(well maybe a few erratas, but not a complete system change!), now saying "I 
didn't like this, so I did this instead" is far more useful, as other people 
who also didn't like it, can then adopt it if they like, or modify it to 
their own preferences!
