[HoE] Cyborgs [compliments for Hopler]
After reading Junkman Cometh a few weeks ago, I was left a little
unimpressed- the opening story seemed to be missing something and I was force
reading the rules in a half daze. I wasn't too sure that cyborgs would be
good, but I had some hope.
However, I was amazed by everything in Cyborgs! Just a few things I liked-
1- the opening section of cyborgs was great! I don't thing that I have read
a character sourcebook yet that had such a unique and well thought through
history for the character types. The jokes mixed into the story (286, Texas
Ranger) really kept me reading- and the cultist spying really made them work
for me. Also, the secrets for the marshalls are great- my marshall spent a
lot of time working on the possibility of building a junker spaceship and he
is not going to like what he finds up there.
2- compatability- thank god you made all of the rules for Road Warriors,
Junkman, and Cyborgs the same. It makes it that much easier to keep
everything straight.
3- Cyborg Creation- The one thing that worried me about Cyborgs was that the
rules could have been a bad rehash of Rifts (I'm just saying it could have
been, nothing personal), but they were damn sly. The pre-programing, manitou
threats, AI threats, and possibility of getting hurt and simply dying from an
important system breaking makes cyborgs a risky investment. The option of
being a big, husky tin can ( BTW, love the slang- Can) is open, but has its
drawbacks. Also, the sneaky infiltratiors are around but nowhere near as
tough.
there are other things, but to put it simply- I will have John Hopler's baby
if he wants!
