[HoE] The Timeline. (What did we do for 100 years?)

Heya
Been wondering this for a while and if its been covered, I'm sorry to
bring it up.
Hell on earth is great fun and I love the setting but .... there is
nothing in the game to show why it is set in the remarkably familiar
year of 2094.
By Familiar I mean that almost every weapon, every car, and every
piece of equipment (Beyond a few token neat future things) is vintage
1990's. not 2090's. I don't mind the fact the stuff is so familiar, it
helps players and Marshals alike to see the game. What I don't get is
why its set in the year 2094. It could have easily been the year 2009
since nothing at all seemed to happen for about 70 years anyway.
According to the timeline almost no technological advancement
occurred or almost 100!! years. Sure the tunnel was built but that's
about it. And the tunnel could have been opened in the 70's. Vtol cars
we got now (albeit they are prototypes-Very rough prototypes!), Its
like everything just stopped.
And things keep popping up like in the Iron Oasis book a section
discusses how some "Newly developed F-40 Tigershark" aircraft were
deployed. These jets have been around since the early eighties. That's
just an example, if the game world sloooowed down in advancement I just
would have liked to have seen something in the world to explain why. I
would have thought the advancement would have been faster if anything,
what with mad science and all. The game could easily have taken place in
1985 or the 1970's. I hate retrofitted the timeline for my posse to
place the game in the year 2019 because even my players have been asking
just what happened over the past 100 years and why is a hummer still
around? Heck the Jeep didnt last 50 years before being replaced.

<looks up> Wow. Didn't mean to rant. Honestly what I wanted to know is
if there is some particular reason the timeline is so far in the future?
And if its another big secret that I can't know without buying yet
another book I will ... well I will just buy it and grind my teeth! :)
