Re: [HoE] Music for the Wasted West

Ya know, in all this talk (and it has come up several times on this and the DL list - not that there is anything wrong with that) I don't think I have seem the Squirrl Nut Zippers song "Damnation" mentioned yet. I love that tune!

Lets see: The Pogues - either alubum "Hell's Ditch" or "Rum Sodomy and the Lash" fit both games so very well.

The The - the album "Mind Bomb" fits HOE very well - esp "Armageddon days are here, again."

The Smiths - the song "How soon is now?" That wailing guitar is creepy in and of itself, then you add Morressy (who isn't whining about the usual Morressy stuff) and you got one heck of a song.

The Clash - the album "London Calling" esp the title track. And I quote - "The ice age is coming/the suns growing dim/............/A nuclear error/but I have no fear/'cause London is calling and I/Live by the River"

A must have is some Patty Smith - Try the song "Horses"

XTC songs "General & Majors" and "Making Plans for Nigel." or "No Thugs in Our House." even "Another satelite."

Oh yeah - Eve 6 - esp "Beautiful Oblivion"

Also Peter Murphy, Sisters of Mercy, etc.

Another trend I have noticed is that all the songs suggested are all trashin' tunes (NTTIAWWT). However, there is a time to let the posse take a breather. Note that the marshall's handbook states the importance of contrast for creating horror.

For a little irony, contrast, or simply for winding down these are great songs:

Any Beach Boys tune for travelling in the great maze - esp "God only knows" for that irony. Try that one on for size after an important NPC snuffs it. For that matter "California Dreamin'" works for irony too.

Semisonic's - "In antoher Life" or "Down in Flames" - "No you never even got to down/Down in flames"

I also like to play Nick Lowes classic "Cruel to Be Kind" when the posse gets suckered.

OK - so I gave away my age somewhat, but that's OK if I can reach one kid out there then my work is done!
Hope this helps BTW:

Jeff "Oh yeah - I like music, too" Tolle
