That's a thought, but honestly, if we're going to pick I'd rather we do it. I strongly suspect many of the more respectable members of the list will also submit some of the better stories, and I don't want there to be any concerns about voting for one's own story (or that of an acquaintance).

I have no doubt that no one would abuse that priviledge as far as his own story went, but I'm actually more afraid he _wouldn't_ vote for his own if it _was_ the best in his honest opinion.

And I've seen more than one deserving candidate lose for exactly that reason. :-/

Secondly, while I have no concerns about conflict of interest, someone outside the process might. I know it's a fairly inconsequencial thing in the grand scheme of things, but some people do get bent out of shape over these things.

Finally, the electronic submission requirement may eliminate a number of our customers. A potentially large number. We have absolutely no data on the numbers of fans with/without internet access or even a computer--and really no way to realistically obtain it in a short time. I guess we could do a website survey...just kidding. ;-)

Again, within this circle, it's a good idea, and I appreciate the effort you've volunteered (it could very well be a _lot_ of work!).

At a quarter 'til 2, coming off a night of gaming and beer, I'm most inclined to go with a method close to Nick's suggestion. Take the majority result, pick one at random from it. That means I've possibly got a lot of reading to fit into my schedule(who knows, maybe I'll get lucky and three people will follow through with it), but maybe I deserve it for trying to get all fancy. :-)

Well, I can't say this isn't a learning experience...

:-)
