[HoE] I Ran Killer Clowns - Finally!
Alright, I finally ran Killer Clowns today for my
posse, including using it to write in a new character.
Spoilers later on... and here's hoping John Goff reads
this, maybe let me know where I went wrong. No one in
my posse even died (though 3 ran out of fate chips, 2
of them ran out before the fight with Dempsey).
Well, the posse landed the craft they stole at the end
of the last session in an airfield near Junkyard. The
posse goes into Junkyard. Andrew returns the device he
"found" to its owner and, in exchange, the owner helps
him create his (Andrew's) first junker device: the
rocket boots. I only allowed this 'cuz I knew how to
use 'em against him later on.
While he was off doing that, Lo, Jimbo, and Bubba go
drinking. Lo finds Alec Michaels sitting at a table in
a bar with a bald girl (this is Trixie Shiloh, the new
character: a former CSA Syker). I supposed that Alec
Michaels would be smart enough to realize that he
could find someone to help him in Junkyard. Besides,
the posse didn't ask any questions.
Well, they head down to Dempsey Islands and the posse
crosses the Trestle under cover of darkness. They
sneak onto the island and find the building where the
bad guys are hanging out. A brief shootout with the
two hanging out on the outside {pistols} and three
inside {hunting rifles} just past the doors did not
much more than to drain a chip or two and some ammo
from the posse. Four of the gunmen died, one with the
rifle threw down his rifle after Jimbo "you're under
arrest"ed him and rolled a 24 (vs. defense of 5) on
overawe. The posse goes in the building and they see
three more men on the inside: two with pistols and the
third with an assault rifle, as well as the three
hostages. A short firefight left the gunmen down and
one hostage with a heavy wound (the other two didn't
get hit). The three hostages ran, but one told them
that they think one of the three escapees ran to
Anytown, CSA. Well, there the posse goes.
When they get there and don't see anyone, Andrew kicks
in the rocket boots to get a better look around. A
clown, pogo-sticking to Andrew, tackles him down
(yeah, I threw this in myself), cackles evilly, and
draws out an ax with a sick grin on his face. He hits
Andrew once, who then kicks his way out from
underneath the clown. Trixie shoots the clown once,
who then pogos over one of the buildings on its
action. Lo "monkey goes to the mountain"s over the
building as well, remembering then that he has no
remaining actions. The clown hits him once and runs
off, into the arcade...
While Lo and Bubba enter the arcade [Lo saw where and
told everyone; Bubba and him wanted to follow suit, so
did], Andrew, Trixie, and Jimbo search the rest of
Anytown, CSA. They found the camera shop and a picture
of Andrew (dead, suffocated by his boots being pressed
against his neck). Andrew succeeded in his guts
check... a natural 21 (-6 = 15). They also found the
wallets and hand in the security station.
Lo and Bubba entered the arcade and, after a bit of
searching, found dear friend Clown. Bubba traded
attacks with him for a few moments while Lo caught up.
One roundhouse kick and the clown fell [Lo has either
really low or high damage rolls, he rarely hits a
middle of the road thing]. They rescued Tom, who told
them where Diane and Fred went. Bubba and Andrew went
for Diane while Trixie, Jimbo, and Lo wandered into
the enchanged woods in search of Fred.
Jimbo, Lo, and Trixie fought the wolf a bit after
rescuing Fred. Lo vamoosed right as Trixie fired the
killing shot at the wolf, monkeying into a tree. Jimbo
took 3 wounds from the blast, but shrugged 'em off
with chips. Trixie was out of the blast radius
entirely. [no, I didn't do that on purpose. She stayed
back without being prompted to]
Andrew and Bubba's was a bit more exciting. Andrew
used the 'boots to travel up the 'coaster, while Bubba
used a car to get up. He fought all four clowns off in
the round or two that it took Andrew to get to the top
and made all his rolls for the loops. Maybe it's just
that my rolls sucked today. Andrew used his boots to
take Diane down from the coaster, and the only
not-yet-dead clown grabbed ahold of Andrew's boot but
was shot off and fell.
And finally the showdown with Dempsey. They had some
lucky rolls: he survived (I think) two rounds. Jimbo
climbed up on Dempsey's back late in the first round
and Bubba made a serious dent in the mechanical body
with a series of good shotgun blasts, running out of
ammo in the meantime. Grabbing his two 9mm pistols, he
fired a few shots later on to distract Dempsey away
while Andrew tried to use his boot's missiles. The
only shot he got off didn't hit. Finally, Jimbo
dispatched a few shells into Dempsey's head. Yes,
Andrew tried scroungin' in the remains of Dempsey's
mechanical body (taking 8 structural components). Any
ideas on what to do with this, anyone?
The posse collected their reward and drove off,
presumablely back to junkyard. But they'll be back to
Dempsey Island someday...
Dang! I had actually intended to kill a posse member,
hoping he'd become harrowed (maybe messing a bit so he
would). I feel bad; Matt (Bubba)'s the only one
without any arcane abilities. Lo's chart is almost
filled up, between Mundane Martial Arts and
Enlightened Ch'i powers. Any ideas to give me for some
Arcane stuff for Bubba?
