They also have to make a concious effort to serve the Reckoners.
A posse tricked into killing Ronan Lynch aren't servitors, no
matter how bad they might have messed things up.

Likewise, if that posse later kills Stone, it doesn't necessarily
make them heroes. Just damn lucky.
