More of a suggestion: I watched the old made-for-TV movie The Day After.
Yeah, the special effect ain't that great, but it actually does a damn good
job of capturing the feel of a post-nuclear holocaust.  Add some zombies
and yer set to go.

Someone's been watching Close Encounters of the Third Kind, I see.  ;)

How's this?  Have the posse be wandering one foot in some desert.  They
begin to find strange objects half buried in the sand... battleships, old
biplanes, and so forth.  Have on of them make an Academia: Occult check to
realize they are thing that disapear without a trace under mysterious
circumstances.  They are trapped in the desert 'till they find the evil
force that has stolen them, and defeat it.
