Re: [HOE] Hell on Earth d20

I have to chime in my agreement with Doc Fireflys comments. I think
the d20 system is fine for D&D, but I think that most of the other
products I have seen (especially Weird Wars) have been hurt by trying
to comply to a system that just doesn't cut it for realism. I would
much rather have seen the effort spent on making the WW game comply
with the d20 system instead put into the already wonderful
background. (It is a good world, and I do like the ideas, but if I
ever play it, I will use some other system) The d20 system,
especially when ported to a mostly realistic horror game, is not a
good system. It is average at best, I think the system itself is
flawed, but functional, and could have been something much better,
especially for a "Universal" system, or an industry standard. I can
say the same for the Deadlands d20, I looked at it, but I certainly
wont buy it. I, and most of the people I know who play either d20 or
a Deadlands world game (Deadlands or HoE) would have preferred to see
the effort put into new products, rather than conversions of the
existing system.

How long have we been waiting for Lost Colony? Couldn't it have been
completed by now if the d20 conversion effort were curtailed /
lessened? I plan on buying LC as soon as its released, but I wont be
buying a HoE d20, or a DL d20 anytime soon. I also disagree with the
decision to put the d20 stats into the DL and HoE product line books
as standard, I don't want it, or plan on using it, and the decision
saddens me. I would rather see the space used for more constructive
purposes.

I do understand the desire to bring the d20 audience into the DL/HoE
worlds, and the real world problems of trying to keep the company
going, but I would rather see the creative effort directed in other
ways. I think the memo Pinnacle had on their website at one time
explained the decision best: the d20 system isn't great, but it is a
sound financial decision for the PEG group to make WWd20, DLd20, and
even HoEd20, I just wish there were alternatives, and I think there
are. For instance, make Lost Colony, pursue GURPS DL (Which is MUCH
better than DLd20 btw, but will probably see a significantly smaller
audience), make the WW line using the DL system, and probably others
