The best sources we've found are the old Shadowrun line. Also you can try
the World of Darkness minis (Werewolf, Vampire, etc.) a lot of those fit.
There are some robotic skeleton minis for Rifts that make good automatons,
and other miniatures in that line will work too. Finally you can use Metal
Gear minis to represent Power Armor or Heavy Cans. 

I guess I'm lucky because I have a couple gaming stores around me that
carry a rather eclectic selection of minis, so I can usually find
something (just the other day I took a Star Wars Queen Amadala's Hand
Maiden mini, added a modelled Flying Guiotine, and made a friend a mini
for her enlightened martial artist).

Bottom line is that there are several modern-to-futuristic lines out
there, and you should just browse through them to find what you're looking
for.
