I believe it was once stated that real science couldn't be derived from Mad
Science because it was magical in nature. Also, a lot of the real scientists of
our time probably went the way of the mad since it was easier, hence the slow
down in real technological advancement. Imagine this, you are a scientist
drawing upon the work of hundreds and thousands of other scientists in your
field. Now imagine that the number of other scientists is only a handful and ask
yourself, how much would your work be slowed by not having other sources to work
with.
