I'd easily allow him to lift a surfboard he was standing on, but if the
power says he cannot lift himself, the that makes sense.  Think about
this.  If you were strong enough to bench-press weight exceeding your
own body weight, could you lift yourself off the ground?  No, because
theres no counter-resistance.

Then again, it's a supernatural mutation, and can really work any way
you want it to.

For the Brainiac: Kineticist mutation, why can't the mutie lift himself?
It seems kind of odd that, if he were strong enough, he could lift
someone else but not himself. To get really silly, what if he stood on a
surfboard and lifted it?
