Actually, under the HOE rules for armor, the pistol would be reduced to 2d4,
not 3d4.  One point of armor drops the die type to d4, but then the other
point subtracts a damage die since you can't go below d4 in terms of die
type.  I'm not sure if that'd affect your calculations much.
