Mainly because it was trick meant for marshals only, so I figured spoiler
space was a good safety net.

Dude! The game ain't worth that much math! :)

It's just a game, as long as things are CLOSE it should be good enough.
Most marshals probably don't worry too much about telling players their
enemies AVs. For the rest a close approx. is probably good enough. You can
always adjust the size up or down a little to get it just right. Make it
[size + (1/2 size * AV) -1]. The point is that the rules for damage and
size can be used to simulate armor without having to give info away to the
players.
