First I apologize for the length but this is rather
interesting
This fun little thought process nearly started a
fight in my group the other day(don't ask) but basically it revolves around what
is and isn't mad science as far as last war tech goes.
Now one player who got the marshal smiling evily at
me says ALL HI equipment, power armor, and things beyond our(i.e 2002 real life)
tech is mad science since it was made by mad scientists before the last war.
This would include hover tanks, portable fusion reactors, lasers, rail guns,
power armor, VTOL fighters, assault striders, and even toasters are mad
science
Now usuallt this wouldn';t be a problem but
my marshall juts got the unity and said how interesting that thought was.( which
mean my junker with the puragtory suit is gonna get shafted) which leads me to
my current thoughts on mad science.
1)Mad science cannot be mass produced right? Hand
assembled by numerous teams yes but not factory built like a regular
car.
2) they don't work on conventional electricity only
steam powered ghost rock, spirit batteries, and mad power sources work. So
power armor and HI toasters wouldn't be mad science since they work off a
slightly mroe advanced but still conventional power source?
3) We already have working prototypes of most
of the non mystic weapons in HOE today. Rail guns, chemical
lasers, powered armor, heck even giant walking robots are
being developed. Another 70 years and we'll probably be very
close to the regular forces in HOE. hmmm That's scary
4) After the city buster the manitous stopped
giving the scientists the ability to make mad science gear EXCEPT for ghost rock
bombs so no one could build the darn things.
5) pure science was catching up to mad science
shortly after WW2.
6) Throckmorton can build hovertanks right? but he
uses a second factory not connected to the main facility and the A.I so they
must not be mad science?
SPOILER BIT
O.k I know the A.I could make anything if it has
the templates but it's kind of alive and the manitous ARE talking to it
