I don't have Waste Warriors, but I'd say they can't /both/ be true. A
good
fighter can still avoid rear attacks better than, well, than me, right?
How about:
Rear facing: no bonus for weapon (you're not holding them off with it)
Surprise: no bonus from Fighting or your weapon (you're a sitting duck)
???
That's off the top of my head, no warranty implied or explicit, yadda,
yadda.
