Purpose of this mailing list

Hi,
I was quite pleased when I saw this list announced by
Richard (oh, by the way, I like the new domain name) as
I am a programmer who enjoys playing games and has
dabbled a bit with writing them. I hoped to be able to
learn some more about the techniques involved in designing
and converting games for playing by e-mail, and maybe 
getting involved with developing games for the server.
But... so far I haven't seen a single posting - is
everyone waiting for someone else to get the ball
rolling? If so, how about telling a bit about your
background/particular interests etc. 
Richard, could you let me/us know some of the history
behind pbmserv? What machine it run on, languages it is
written in etc.
