I thought about that.  While such a rule works in TwixT, no one would 
consider using it for Chess.  It's not used in any of the many Chess 
variants.  I think Cathedral is more like Chess in this respect.  It would 
just be screwy.  It would make that first move rather unnatural.  (Of 
course if Moore had mad the game this way in the first place, I would have 
no objection.)
