[pbmserv-dev] Series of Cathedral Games

I doubt an appropriate constant komi for Cathedral is known
yet.
Approximately 3.
But if you combine a per-game komi and the
swap option, players
will converge to a mutually acceptable komi very quickly. To
do
this on pbmserv would require:
a). the ability to play with a komi (easily addable to pbmserv
games,
even thought it's a new concept here),
b). specifying the komi with the challenge (side question is
default
komi value, 0 or otherwise), and
c). swapping (1 move equalization easiest, N-move equalization or
other variants also possible).
N-move equalization (where N is at least two if you count placing the
Cathedral as one) would make a good game, but it would be a different
game than Cathedral as usually played. Due to the structure of the
game, one move swap and swap won't work.
Komi swap is an interesting idea. The challenger specifies a Komi
value, and the opponent decides which way to play. I think the Komi
would soon become standardized.

Games
All this talk about playing "pairs" of cathedral games reminded
me of what
I was going to do with the backgammon games. I don't think Richard
wants
this on his server but...
Sure he does. B^)
I was thinking of reprogramming the bg
modules
so as to allow for matches. What I would do is add another
ReadWriteIntList
variable to the game file called "matches" and then when one
game finished
I would simply *not* return a value for the IsGameOver() function but
rather
I would reset all variables (including erasing the "moves"
array) and
continue on as if a game is still in progress.
Yeah. We need that for Cathedral.

I prefer the Komi idea, and would be happy with a komi
of .5 (half a building) if I were light.
I'll take dark. Are you aware that the scoring isn't number of
buildings, but number of board squares the building covers? If you
can't place your Manor, and I can't place a Stable and a Tavern, I win 4
to 3.
