[pbmserv-dev] Power of Two
ok, jumping for the moment to the conclusion
(definitely revisitable) that I can convince Richard
that this would be a good game to have on the server,
I am looking for ideas about how best to express the
board and notation for the game pictures below.
http://www.gamepuzzles.com/powerof2.htm
I am working on getting the Ok of the inventor (I
didn't forget that step) I am merely parallel
processing and assuming I can get the pieces to fall
into place.
Here's a simplified version of the rules. A move
consists of moving one of your pieces any distance
along a straight line as far as you like but without
bumping into or jumping over another piece. Depending
on where it arrives more piecs are added or removed
from the board. The game ends if a player ends the
turn with sixteen pieces on the board (they win) or
the player has no legal move (they lose). The
notation has to allow for specifying where a piece is
added, but removal is deterministic. The piecs can be
in one of two states but this does not affect when and
if they can move (it affects the consequences of the
move, i.e., whetherthe piece is removed after it is
moved, but this has no bearing on notation). There
are 64 intersections and they can be organized into an
11x11 griod with some warping.
As you can see, the board is not exactly
ascii-friendly. One could go for a highly stuylized
version and then rely on an external web interface
(much as I, for one, play Trax now), or we could break
tradition and send an image with the board.
Any preliminary thoughts?
Lyman
PS I am interested in possibly pursuing this game
(with the good graces of the inventor, Richard and my
fellow developers) simply because I own it, enjoy
playing it but don't have enough local opponents.
