As John and Richard said, "thanks"!  Could you, while you're making changes, note what needs to change in the actual game files to make them work with the new version of perlgame.pm?  I can then update haggis so it will run properly.  This will also help me in 
understanding what needs to happen for future development.

I've been playing real-life catch-up since my vacation, and now I'll hold off on any changes to the "old" code.
