Hearts and MHearts aren't really just two variants of the same game.
In the beginning, there was Hearts. It played a single hand of
hearts, and had a number of problems (ability to lead hearts before
broken, not making sure that you followed suit, etc.). I submitted
patches to the author, which were applied slowly, if ever. I
expressed interest in fixing it so that you could play a full game
instead of a single hand, and the author told me he had plans to do
that, and he would appreciate it if I waited for him to do it. After
a year of waiting, I wrote MHearts from scratch. (The "M" is for
match, or multihanded.)
MHearts does have a couple of options, most notably -jacks which makes
the Jack of Diamonds worth -10.
