Chess goes back well over 1000 years.  But if you want the version that 
goes back 500 years, then pawns never move two squares (and thus there's no 
en passant).  I don't think that version is available on this server.

And of course there was one change in the rules of Chess in the 20th 
Century, but that one is a little obscure.
