I cannot believe that I have not received more responses for
the chess tournament which I am planning to run on PBM.
I still have three spots open for this event. Here is how I
am going to structure it:
Three five-man sections, you will play four games in
the first round, one game against each of the other four
players in your section, two games with the white pieces
and two games with the black pieces. The three section
winners and two "wild-card" players (players with the next
best records among the non-section winners) will advance
to a five-man section as a finals section.
The time control for all games is 180 days to complete
all moves. You may take vacation during the tournament,
but I would request that players take not more than 30 days
vacation during your games. Entry is free, there are no
prizes, but all games will affect your PBM chess rating and
I will announce the results of the tournament in a broadcast
when it is all over.
So far I have received entries from:
dshort, balu, thrawn, eholzman, asdf, mdlopezlvn, hrogers,
khw, u-sha, extreme, roji and pive. If your name is not on
this list and you wish to play, please email me your PBM
three spots still open, I'll have to turn you down if I
receive three other entries before I get yours!
I am also looking to run a 16-player single elimination
quickchess tournament. So far I have received 8 entries
and so I have 8 slots still open. Time control is relaxed,
played at non-tournament tc of 1 move per 21 days
though I will try to enforce an unofficial tc of 1 move per
14 days. What's an "unofficial" tc? First violation gets you
a warning and if you violate it a second time you forfeit.
This happens, however, only if your opponent complains to
me about you over-stepping the time limits.
I am also looking to run a 16-player single elimination
checkers tournament. So far I have received 13 entries
and so I have 8 slots still open. Time controls are the
same as stated above for the quickchess tournament.
