2003 real-time Pente Championship Played

Section-A
– Double elimination
1.
Open
to all players. 2.
Play
continues until all players except one have lost two matches. One player left is the section-A
champion. 3.
All
players seeded and pairings determined by ratings obtained from all games played
at Dweebo’s Stone Games (DSG). Repeat matches are avoided until latest
possible time. 4.
Standard
double elimination format with two brackets. The seedings apply separately to
each bracket. All players start out
in bracket #1. When a match is
lost, player drops from bracket #1 (winner’s bracket) to bracket #2 (loser’s
bracket). When a match is lost in
bracket #2, player is eliminated. 5.
Players
only play against players in their own bracket until there is only one player
left in bracket #1 at which time the brackets are
combined. 6.
Matches
consist of set(s) of two games, one of each color. Match winner is the first to win both
games of a set. 7.
Time
controls are game/30 mins. with 5 secs./move incremental time. Optional reduced time controls if 3 sets
(6 games) have resulted in a tie. Section-B
– Swiss system followed by single-elimination
playoff
1.
Open
to players rated below 1600 at DSG who have never been rated above 1750 as an
established player. 2.
All
players play matches in all rounds (4-7 rounds depending on number of
players). A running total is kept
of total tourney wins. 3.
Top 4
or 8 with most total wins after the regular 4-7 rounds advance to a single
elimination playoff. Winner is the
section-B Pente champion. 4.
Random
pairings first round. After first
round, players are paired with someone with the same (or similar) number of
total wins in the tourney. Repeat
matches are avoided until playoff. 5.
Regular
matches consist of 4 games, two of each color. 6.
Playoff
matches consist of set(s) of two games, one of each color. The match winner is the first to win
both games of a set. 7.
Time
controls are game/20 mins. No
incremental time. In playoff
matches, option reduced time controls if 3 sets (6 games) have resulted in
ties. 8.
Vacation
time allowed. BEFORE the tourney
begins, any player upon request may request a bye in any ONE round except the
final round or a playoff round. For
a bye, a player is given 2 wins and 2 losses. The
sign-up period ends on January 5th, 2003. If you are new to DSG, you must have an
I.D in order to sign-up for the tournament. To create an I.D., go to DSG site at www.pente.org. On the left side of the home page in the
Account section, click on the ‘Register’ link and follow the registration
instructions. There is no cost and
you will not receive any advertisements.
